A One Car Family

Monday, June 2, 2008

Cody and I decided that between me staying at home and the way gas prices are going we should try to live on only one car. So, earlier this week we said farewell to Cody's truck. Now before you start jumping to conclusions, it was 100% Cody's decision to sell the truck. As Mindy said, "Dave Ramsey would be proud". It's fun to know that we're not the only Dave Ramsey fans!

More Cabin Pictures

Cody and I don't have any "big plans" for summer vacation this year, but we do plan on spending a lot of time at the cabin in Sedona. Sorry if the pictures and posts all start looking the same. When we went to the cabin at the end of May, it was still quite cold. I love being able to wear sweaters and having to sleep with a comforter and blankets on top. We thought Cooper would have a hard time because it was so cold, but he seemed unbothered by the fact that he was always bundled up. I think Cooper also likes sleeping in his pack & play rather than his crib. If nothing else, at least it's a change of scenery for him. One of the pictures shows just how close Elizabeth came to falling in the creek. Well, hope you enjoy the pictures!

Bumbo Time

One of Cooper's new favorite toys is the Bumbo. He loves to sit up and look all around. We learned really quickly that he has to be monitored while he's sitting in it otherwise he will try to stand and end up tipping the Bumbo over on its side with him still in it. You can't really see it in this picture, but Cooper's thighs are getting quite chunky. When we try to take him out of the Bumbo, another person has to hold it down, otherwise his thighs will get stuck in the seat which I would imagine is not very comfortable. Thanks Whitney and Chris for letting us borrow the Bumbo!

Where's Cooper?

Sundays are always busy times before Church. Our Ward starts at 9:00 (I know, it could be worse) and Cody has Ward Council meeting every week starting at 7:30. That means I have to feed Cooper, give him a bath, dress him, feed him again, and get myself showered and dressed before 8:45. This Sunday Cody got home around 8:30 from his meeting and I assigned him the task of getting Cooper dressed. After doing this, Cody came to our room to ask me a question. When he went back to check on Cooper who was lying on the floor in the family room, he began saying "Where's Cooper?" which we do quite often. When Cody turned the corner and found Cooper (see picture below) it almost seemed like Cooper was hiding himself.

Good Ol' Oak Creek Canyon

Sunday, May 4, 2008

Cody and I have really missed the cabin since the last time we went (September '07) so we were ecstatic to be able to go up this past weekend. I quickly realized that taking a baby changes everything. Before, Cody and I could fit everything we needed into a small suitcase. Now, we had the small suitcase, pack & play, backpack, bags of diapers, and much more. I couldn't believe how quickly it all adds up. Whitney and Chris and their 2 year old Elizabeth went with us along with Sam and Shannon and their 4 month old David. There were a lot of dirty diapers and it seemed like the babies were never asleep at the same time. If David was asleep, Cooper would be awake. If Cooper was awake, David would be asleep. Despite this, we still managed to have a great time.

Thank Goodness for Healthy Boys!

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Cooper had his 2 month check-up last week and I'm happy to say that he is healthy and strong. The doctor was surprised that Cooper was only two months old...I guess he is a big boy. He weighed in at 13lbs 4oz (80th percentile) and he has grown to a wopping 24 1/2 inches long (95th percentile). I guess he is big for his age, but he doesn't seem "chunky" to me. Okay, his thighs might have a little extra meat on them and his chin has a partner (another chin), but he is still skinny in the middle section.

Well, with the two month appointment comes the first round of shots. Cooper was already upset about being woken up from his nap to have the doctor and nurse check him out so when they began giving him the shots, he was not a happy camper. For a few seconds he just looked at us with shock in his eyes as if he was saying "Why?". After that came the crying. The only side effect I noticed was that he was a bit more sleepy than usual, but luckily there was no fever or sickness. We have to go back this week for another shot because they were out of it when we went. Let's hope he doesn't have a reaction to this one!

Free Rice!

Here's a game to test your vocabulary, but the cool thing is that for each word you match correctly to its meaning 20 grains of rice is donated to help end hunger! Check it out: www.freerice.com

Cooper's Baby Blessing

Monday, April 14, 2008

Cooper was blessed on Sunday, April 13 (Anna's Birthday). Cody did a great job with the blessing and from what I was told, Cooper was being bounced pretty high during it...I guess that happens when you have 11 people in the circle. Cooper got to wear his new outfit (yeah for Old Navy) which I thought he looked pretty handsome in. After the church block, we all went back to the Riding's house for a taco salad lunch and cheesecake dessert. Thank you to Kristi and Mom for doing so much to help out! Cooper is very blessed to have such great family to look up to.
