Good Ol' Oak Creek Canyon

Sunday, May 4, 2008

Cody and I have really missed the cabin since the last time we went (September '07) so we were ecstatic to be able to go up this past weekend. I quickly realized that taking a baby changes everything. Before, Cody and I could fit everything we needed into a small suitcase. Now, we had the small suitcase, pack & play, backpack, bags of diapers, and much more. I couldn't believe how quickly it all adds up. Whitney and Chris and their 2 year old Elizabeth went with us along with Sam and Shannon and their 4 month old David. There were a lot of dirty diapers and it seemed like the babies were never asleep at the same time. If David was asleep, Cooper would be awake. If Cooper was awake, David would be asleep. Despite this, we still managed to have a great time.

Thank Goodness for Healthy Boys!

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Cooper had his 2 month check-up last week and I'm happy to say that he is healthy and strong. The doctor was surprised that Cooper was only two months old...I guess he is a big boy. He weighed in at 13lbs 4oz (80th percentile) and he has grown to a wopping 24 1/2 inches long (95th percentile). I guess he is big for his age, but he doesn't seem "chunky" to me. Okay, his thighs might have a little extra meat on them and his chin has a partner (another chin), but he is still skinny in the middle section.

Well, with the two month appointment comes the first round of shots. Cooper was already upset about being woken up from his nap to have the doctor and nurse check him out so when they began giving him the shots, he was not a happy camper. For a few seconds he just looked at us with shock in his eyes as if he was saying "Why?". After that came the crying. The only side effect I noticed was that he was a bit more sleepy than usual, but luckily there was no fever or sickness. We have to go back this week for another shot because they were out of it when we went. Let's hope he doesn't have a reaction to this one!

Free Rice!

Here's a game to test your vocabulary, but the cool thing is that for each word you match correctly to its meaning 20 grains of rice is donated to help end hunger! Check it out: www.freerice.com

Cooper's Baby Blessing

Monday, April 14, 2008

Cooper was blessed on Sunday, April 13 (Anna's Birthday). Cody did a great job with the blessing and from what I was told, Cooper was being bounced pretty high during it...I guess that happens when you have 11 people in the circle. Cooper got to wear his new outfit (yeah for Old Navy) which I thought he looked pretty handsome in. After the church block, we all went back to the Riding's house for a taco salad lunch and cheesecake dessert. Thank you to Kristi and Mom for doing so much to help out! Cooper is very blessed to have such great family to look up to.

Cooper's First Bath!

Friday, March 21, 2008

Cody and I were really excited when Cooper's umbilical cord finally fell off so we could give up the sponge baths and get him really clean. Cooper cried a bit at first, but after we started washing him, he really took to it. Unfortunately, we forgot that Cooper was a boy and he did what any little boy would do when he got into a warm bath with a full bladder. Cooper's tinkle shot out of the bath, across the counter, and onto my foot...he can really aim!

Cooper's Cousins

Cooper is so lucky to have two great cousins! Elizabeth will be two in May and loves to blow kisses to Cooper. Colton is 20 months and likes to "softly" touch Cooper. I know they will be great examples and help him become mischievous like them.

Sydney & Tim's Wedding Pictures

Sydney and Tim were married on January 12th in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Below is a link to a slideshow of their wedding pictures. Hope you enjoy!

Our Newest Addition...

Cooper Jed Riding was born on February 21, 2008. He weighed in at 7lbs 10oz and was 21 1/2 inches long. I woke up that morning at 3:45am and thought I just had a stomach ache from something I had eaten the night before. Then I realized that the pains were coming on every ten minutes. I thought for sure it must be pre-labor pains, not the real thing. I still had a week and a half until Cooper's due date (March 3). At 5:30am I finally got out of bed and decided that I would not tell Cody about my contractions-he would make me stay at home. I taught my first graders the whole day while having contractions five minutes apart (despite the concerns of the other teachers) and finally went to the doctor that afternoon. He told us that Cooper would be coming that night. We checked into the hospital at 7:30pm, I got an epidural at 10pm (already dilated to an 8!) and Cooper was born at 11:40pm.
